Intelsius are the leading supplier of specialist packaging for shipping samples such as blood, urine or tissue.
Jade Direct were contacted by packaging experts DGP looking for an accurate temperature controlled insert which would fit neatly into an existing insulated unit for the transportation of blood whilst keeping the temperature stable at 23°C during transportation.
Jade Direct designers had to consider several aspects, including;
- Limited low profile space in existing insulated packaging
- Heating to maintain 23°C within +-2°C
- Only battery power available
- Suitable for products
- No hotspots

Working with many heating cable suppliers Jade Direct were able to select the correct heating cable which had the required physical characteristics and heating profile for the application. Once the cable was selected the cable carrier had to be designed, to not only hold the cable but to provide insulation so the heating was directed into the insulated box, with push fit connections onto a battery pack.
Trials were carried out at Intelsius headquarters with temperature profiles carried out across the heating face.
Following successful results Jade Direct now supplies DGP with heating pads in a range of sizes which are colour coded for ease of identification.
